Alternative — rating pathway then officer conversion

Faster start: complete Ratings Basic Safety Training + join cargo/cruise fleet as OS/AB. Accumulate sea time + evening academy classes → officer conversion. 5-7 years total but earning while training.

Pay trajectory

Immediate pay drop from cruise hospitality (US$1,500-2,500/month + tips) to cadet (US$500-1,000/month). Recovery at OOW rank (US$3,500-4,500) + Chief Mate (US$6,000-8,000) + Master (US$10,000-16,000).
