Offshore platforms

50 named offshore drilling and production platforms — the working seafarer's reference for which vessel-and-platform combinations exist in the deep-sea offshore industry. Each entry carries the operator, vessel/platform type, water depth, region, year commissioned, and current status. Crew pay in this sector is significantly higher than equivalent cargo ranks (see /career-maps/offshore-vs-deep-sea-pay-tradeoff); the working rhythm is also different (28/28 or 35/35 day rotation, helicopter transfers, weather-sensitive operations).

How to use this directory: platforms are grouped below by type. Drillships and semi-submersibles drill new wells; FPSOs receive, process, and export oil from already-producing fields; jack-ups operate in shallow water and lift themselves out of the sea on legs. FLNG units produce liquefied natural gas at sea (rare and large). Heavy-lift specialist vessels install or remove the platforms themselves. Many offshore officers cross between vessel types over a career; engineering officers tend to specialise more.

Lost-and-decommissioned entries (Deepwater Horizon, Alexander L. Kielland) are included because they remain industry references for safety training — the post-incident regulatory changes shape modern offshore work.
