Terms of use

Last updated 2026-04-25.

1. What this site is

Seafarer Index is a free reference portal compiled from public maritime sources. It is informational. It is not legal, medical, financial, navigational, or career advice.

2. What you can do with the content

Reference content (ports, ships, companies, flag states, certifications, glossary, salary ranges, helplines, reference material) may be read, summarised, cited, and linked back to with attribution. Some entries are derived from sources licensed CC BY-SA — those carry inline attribution where shown. The full source map is on /sources. Forum posts are owned by their authors; please do not republish forum content without the author's permission.

3. What we don't promise

Data may be wrong, stale, or out of date. Always verify regulated information (STCW, MLC, flag-state rules, wages) with the named authority before acting. We don't warrant fitness for any particular purpose, and the site is provided "as is" with no liability for errors or omissions to the maximum extent permitted by law.

4. Forum conduct

If you sign up to post in the forum, the basics: no harassment, no doxxing, no spam, no commercial advertising, no illegal content. Posts that breach these may be removed; accounts that repeatedly breach them may be revoked. Use the Report button on any post you think shouldn't be there.

5. Crisis content

Helpline numbers and crisis contacts are kept up to date on a best-effort basis. In an actual emergency at sea or ashore, follow the official number for your jurisdiction or vessel's flag state — this site is a directory, not a dispatcher.

6. Privacy

See /privacy. Short version: no analytics, no trackers, no ads, no third-party cookies you didn't ask for.

7. Changes

These terms may change. Substantive changes will be noted at the top of this page with the new date.
