Overview
AIDA Cruises is the German-market brand of Carnival Corporation, headquartered in Rostock, Germany. Operates 12 modern ships with the distinctive AIDA livery (large painted eyes on the bow). The German-language onboard operation and the German-style buffet-focused dining model differentiate AIDA from other Carnival brands. Most of the fleet is built at Meyer Werft.
For seafarers
Crew contracts run 6-9 months with mid-tier pay. German-language ability is a strong advantage for guest-facing roles (cruise director, social staff, restaurant managers); back-of-house roles can operate without German. AIDA hires heavily from Eastern Europe (Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia), the Philippines, and Indonesia. German officers are well represented at senior marine and engineering levels.
Watch for
Non-German-speaking front-of-house staff will find the guest experience harder than on English-language brands. The casual German-market style (T-shirts, beachwear, no formal nights) means a more relaxed onboard culture than P&O or Cunard, but still demanding work rhythms.
