Overview
Carnival Cruise Line is the flagship brand of Carnival Corporation, the world's largest cruise group (also owning Princess, Holland America, Cunard, Costa, AIDA, Seabourn, P&O Cruises, P&O Australia). Carnival operates a ~27-ship fleet focused on the contemporary mass-market segment, with departures from US east-coast ports, Long Beach, New Orleans, Galveston, Mobile, and a growing Brisbane footprint.
For seafarers
Crew contracts run 6-8 months with mid-tier pay by cruise standards. The fleet is heavily Caribbean-focused, so most crew changes happen at PortMiami, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Galveston, and the Carnival private island of Princess Cays. Carnival's hotel department is one of the largest single employers of Filipino, Indonesian, Indian, and Brazilian cruise crew. Marine and engineering officers come predominantly from Eastern Europe, the UK, and Italy.
Watch for
Carnival's contracts run long with high port-call frequency, meaning hotel-department staff often work 11-hour days in the contract. Pay is competitive for ratings but lower than the premium and luxury brands. As with all Carnival Group brands, recruitment is through a tightly-controlled network of contracted manning agents; bypass agents who request fees.
