Overview

MSC Cruises is the cruise division of MSC Group (the world's largest container shipping line by TEU). Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, MSC Cruises operates a fast-growing fleet of 22 vessels including the World class — among the largest LNG-fuelled cruise ships in the world — built at Chantiers de l'Atlantique and Fincantieri. The fleet is positioned for European, Caribbean, and Persian Gulf markets.

For seafarers

Crew contracts run 6-9 months with mid-tier pay. The fleet is European-leaning, so crew changes are concentrated in Civitavecchia, Barcelona, Genoa, Marseille, Miami, and Dubai. MSC hires significant numbers of Italian, Eastern European, Indonesian, Filipino, and Indian crew. The marine and engineering departments are strongly Italian-led — Italian officers are over-represented at senior ranks, with a growing pipeline from Croatian and Indian maritime academies.

Watch for

MSC's growth is rapid: many roles are new and onboard training is heavy. Family-line connections within the operator are common — both an asset and a complication. MSC operates a number of LNG-fuelled vessels, so cargo-engineering experience with LNG bunkering is increasingly valued.
