Overview
Silversea Cruises, owned by Royal Caribbean Group, is the luxury-ultra-luxury small-ship brand of the group, headquartered in Monaco. Operates 12 small all-suite ships including expedition vessels for Antarctic and Arctic itineraries. World cruises, Mediterranean, and polar expedition are the core markets. Crew-to-guest ratio is among the highest in the cruise industry, supporting all-inclusive service.
For seafarers
Crew contracts run 4-6 months with very-high pay tier. The high crew-to-guest ratio means smaller departments and a more personal working environment — crew often know every guest by name. Hotel and culinary staff are recruited from the global hotel-school network as much as from cruise-specific manning agents; previous experience at 5-star hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants is normal. Marine and engineering ranks are competitive — Silversea expeditions need ice-class capability and DP experience.
Watch for
The luxury market is service-intensive — guest expectations are higher and the consequences of error are larger. Polar expedition operations are weather-dependent and itineraries change frequently; flexibility is essential. Pay is the best in cruise but the bar to entry is correspondingly high.
