Regulatory detail & full definition
Non-technical-skills training in bridge teamwork, communication, decision-making, situational awareness, and human-factors error prevention. BRM is rooted in the cockpit/crew resource management work in aviation that followed the Tenerife and other accidents. STCW Code Sec. A-II/1, A-II/2 and B-VIII/2 require the underlying competences for OOW and master; specific BRM courses are widely required by oil major vetting and by major flags as a condition of employment. Refresher training is recommended every five years to maintain competence.
