Continuous Synopsis Record

Statutory document recording the history of a ship's flag, name, owner, ISM company and class society, required under SOLAS XI-1 Reg. 5 since 2004. The CSR is updated each time any of these particulars change, with the new entry showing the date of change and the previous record retained on board. The document allows port states and inspectors to verify that ownership and operating responsibility are clear, and reduces opportunities to obscure responsibility through opaque ownership chains. The CSR must be available for PSC inspection at every port call.
