Standard fit on most cargo vessels >= 5,000 GT. Steam is used for fuel heating (HFO needs ~120 deg C for injection viscosity), accommodation heating, fresh-water generator, and (on some ships) cargo heating. Soot blowers fitted to clear deposits; without them, fires in the EGE are a known incident pattern.
