International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code — mandatory under SOLAS Ch. VII for the carriage of dangerous goods in packaged form by sea. The Code covers nine UN classes plus subdivisions, sets packaging, marking, and labelling requirements, defines stowage and segregation by IMDG Class compatibility, and imposes documentation requirements including the dangerous goods declaration and container/vehicle packing certificate. The Code is updated every two years (current edition IMDG 2024); training of all personnel involved in DG handling is mandatory under IMO Resolution MSC.122(75) as amended by MSC.477(102).
