Verification audit of ship and port-facility security plans under the ISPS Code Part A 19. Initial audits accompany ISPS certification at newbuilding or first compliance; intermediate audits are required between the second and third anniversary of issue; renewal audits accompany the five-yearly Ship Security Certificate renewal. Auditors are typically Recognised Security Organisations (RSOs) acting on behalf of the flag state. Audit findings are recorded as observations or non-conformities, with major non-conformities suspending the certificate until rectified.
