Neo-Panamax (or New-Panamax) describes a ship built to the maximum dimensions of the Panama Canal's third set of locks, opened in 2016: a beam up to 49 metres, a length up to about 366 metres and a draft up to 15.2 metres. The enlarged locks roughly tripled the canal's container capacity, allowing container ships of around 12,000–14,000 TEU and large LNG carriers to transit for the first time. Neo-Panamax has since become a key design point for container and gas tonnage serving US East Coast and Asia–Americas routes.
