Potable water is the drinkable-quality fresh water aboard ship — used for drinking, cooking, showers, laundry. Produced by fresh-water generators (evaporators from sea water) or bunkered ashore. Treated with UV + chlorination + retained in dedicated tanks. MLC A3.2 requires quantity + quality; WHO Guide to Ship Sanitation sets the microbiological standard. Chief Officer monitors chlorination residual daily + arranges monthly biological testing.
