Performance Standard for Protective Coatings — IMO mandatory standard (MSC.215(82)) for coatings in dedicated seawater ballast tanks of all new-builds and double-side skin spaces of bulk carriers ≥150 m. PSPC requires surface preparation to Sa 2.5 (near-white blast cleaning), dust class 1, soluble salt limit, and a prescribed coating system with target coating life of 15 years. PSPC compliance is verified by an independent coating inspector during construction. Many class societies operate enhanced PSPC notations; the standard significantly extended typical coating life and reduced corrosion-driven repair work.
