A Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) is the unit responsible for coordinating search-and-rescue operations within a defined search-and-rescue region; the maritime variant is the MRCC and the aviation variant the ARCC. Many states run a Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) that handles both maritime and aeronautical SAR - the term used in Australia, Norway and New Zealand - while 'Rescue Coordination Center' is used in the US and Canada and 'MRCC' across much of Europe. All operate within the service-coordination framework of the 1979 SAR Convention.
