Special Compensation P&I Club clause attached to Lloyd's Open Form (LOF) salvage agreements, replacing the unworkable Article 14 of the Salvage Convention 1989.

In practice

Invoked by the salvor when conventional LOF salvage looks unlikely to produce a meaningful award. Activates a fixed daily rate plus tariff for tug, equipment, and personnel. Common in environmental incidents where property salvage is small but pollution prevention is high-value.

Allows a salvor to invoke pre-agreed compensation rates for salvage with environmental risk, even when the salvage is unsuccessful (no traditional 'no cure, no pay' bar). Funded by the shipowner's P&I Club. The Special Casualty Representative (SCR) attends on behalf of the P&I Club + Salvors and must agree daily summaries.
