Regulatory detail & full definition
Written contract required by MLC 2006 Standard A2.1 between the seafarer and the shipowner setting out the terms of employment, including wages, leave, repatriation rights, accommodation provision, medical care, training, complaint procedures, and termination conditions. The SEA must be in a language the seafarer understands and a copy must be carried on board. Many flags use a standard SEA form; some require approval of any non-standard SEA. PSC and MLC inspectors verify the existence, currency, and specific provisions during inspection.
