Replaced the traditional stocked anchor (Admiralty pattern) on commercial ships from c.1900. Standard types include Hall, Spek, Pool, AC-14. Holding power ~2.5-4× anchor weight in good ground; AC-14 high-holding-power class achieves ~10×. Sized per IACS UR A1 anchor-tonne requirement.
