Iran's IRGC Navy boarded and seized the container ship MSC Aries by helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel is Portuguese-flagged, MSC-operated, and connected via ultimate ownership to Zodiac Maritime (Ofer family). Iran cited alleged violation of maritime regulations; the seizure came shortly after an Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. 25 crew — mostly Indian nationals — were held on board and progressively released over subsequent months. The vessel was released in May 2024.
