MSC Oscar is a 19,224 TEU container ship built by Daewoo (now Hanwha Ocean) in 2015 and operated by MSC. At delivery she was the world's largest container ship by TEU capacity. The vessel and her four sister ships marked the moment when MSC surpassed Maersk in megaship orderbook size — a strategic move that ultimately took MSC to the top of the world container-line rankings by 2022. Named after the founding Aponte family patriarch's grandson.
MSC megaships are operated by MSC's centrally-managed crewing structure — Italian-leaning officer pipeline at senior ranks, Eastern European and Indian/Filipino crew at junior and rating levels. Oscar-class crews work on classic Asia-Europe loops with high-pressure port-call cadence at Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, and Singapore.
