OOCL Hong Kong is the lead ship of OOCL's G-class, a 21,413 TEU ULCV built by Samsung Heavy Industries (Korea) and delivered in 2017. At delivery she briefly held the world's-largest-container-ship title; she operates Asia-Europe loops under OOCL's iconic blue-and-red livery. The G-class delivery coincided with OOCL's acquisition by COSCO Shipping Holdings.
OOCL-managed tonnage is well-regarded for operational discipline and onboard standards. Pre-COSCO acquisition the crewing was Hong-Kong-leaning at senior levels with strong Filipino and Indian recruitment at junior; post-acquisition the crewing has gradually aligned with COSCO standards but the OOCL brand retains some legacy distinctions. Engineering officers value the well-maintained engine room and clear documentation culture.
