Overview
Euronav was one of the world's largest VLCC and Suezmax tanker operators, founded in Antwerp in 1989 by the Saverys family's Compagnie Maritime Belge. In 2023-2024 the company merged with CMB.TECH (the family's clean-energy shipping arm). Headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium. The combined entity operates around 75 tankers plus the CMB.TECH ammonia-fuelled future fleet.
For seafarers
Contracts 4-6 months with high pay tier. The Belgian and Greek officer pipeline is strong; Antwerp Maritime Academy graduates are a major source. CMB.TECH's ammonia-fuelled and hydrogen-powered newbuilds are at the leading edge of fuel transition — relevant career experience for engineers willing to work on early-adoption tonnage.
Watch for
The Euronav → CMB.TECH transition is ongoing; crewing policies are gradually consolidating. Ammonia-fuel certification is becoming the differentiator for senior engineering positions on the new tonnage.
