Overview
HMM (Hyundai Merchant Marine) is South Korea's principal container line, currently controlled by a Korea Development Bank consortium following the 2016 restructuring of the parent Hyundai Group. Headquartered in Seoul. HMM operates around 75 vessels — but recent newbuilds have included some of the world's largest container ships (HMM Algeciras class, 24,000 TEU).
For seafarers
Contracts 6-9 months with mid-to-high pay tier. Korean officer pipeline through Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU); strong Filipino and Indonesian rating recruitment. HMM's Algeciras-class megaships are prestige assignments for senior officers.
Watch for
HMM is in a long-running restructuring process — corporate strategy has changed multiple times in the past decade. Verify the operating entity (HMM Co., Ltd.) versus any historical Hyundai-Group recruitment material that may be out of date.
