Overview
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) is one of Japan's three largest shipping companies and one of the largest globally by total tonnage (across container, bulk, tanker, PCTC, LNG, and FSRU). Headquartered in Tokyo. MOL operates around 730 vessels across all segments. The container business is now consolidated into the ONE joint venture (with NYK and K Line).
For seafarers
Contracts 4-6 months with mid-to-high pay tier. Japanese officer pipeline through TUMSAT and Kobe Maritime University; strong Filipino, Indonesian, and Indian rating and junior-officer recruitment through long-standing Japanese-affiliated manning agencies. MOL's LNG carrier fleet is a high-prestige assignment for senior officers and cargo engineers.
Watch for
MOL's container business operates under ONE; container-fleet seafarers work for ONE, not MOL directly. The bulk, LNG, tanker, and PCTC fleets are still MOL-managed. Confirm which entity is actually your employer.
