Overview
Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) is one of Japan's three largest shipping companies, part of the Mitsubishi keiretsu. Headquartered in Tokyo. NYK operates around 800 vessels across container, bulk, tanker, PCTC, and LNG segments. Like MOL and K Line, NYK's container business is consolidated into ONE.
For seafarers
Contracts 4-6 months with mid-to-high pay tier. Japanese officers from TUMSAT and Kobe; Filipino, Indonesian, and Indian rating and junior-officer recruitment. NYK's PCTC (pure car/truck carrier) fleet is one of the largest in the world — a specialised segment for crew with PCTC-specific experience.
Watch for
Same caveat as MOL — container fleet now under ONE. NYK's PCTC and LNG fleets retain NYK management. Bridge-equipment fit is heavily Furuno-and-JRC on Japanese newbuilds; engine-room is mostly Mitsubishi-MAN-ES on the older units and WinGD on the more recent ones. Cross-training between NYK and MOL bulk tonnage transfers cleanly.
