Overview
Ocean Network Express (ONE) is the joint venture of Japan's three principal container shipping lines — NYK, MOL, and K Line — formed in 2017 to consolidate their container businesses. Headquartered in Singapore for commercial operations with Japanese parent oversight. ONE operates around 230 vessels and is one of the world's seven largest container lines.
For seafarers
Contracts 4-6 months with mid-to-high pay tier. Manning draws from all three Japanese parent pools — heavy Japanese officer presence at senior ranks (TUMSAT, Kobe Maritime University pipelines), with Filipino and Indian recruitment at junior officer and rating levels through long-established manning agencies in Manila and Mumbai.
Watch for
ONE-flagged tonnage typically registers under one of the three parent groups' flag preferences — Panama, Liberia, Singapore, or Japan. The JV structure means HR and crewing policies are slowly converging from the three parent practices; expect occasional inconsistency between vessel sister-ships.
