Overview
Pacific International Lines (PIL) is a Singapore-headquartered container shipping company, controlled by Heliconia Capital (a Temasek subsidiary) following a 2021 financial restructuring with the founding Teo family retaining a minority stake. PIL operates around 90 vessels with a strong intra-Africa and Asia-Africa focus distinct from the major east-west lines.
For seafarers
Contracts 6-9 months with mid-tier pay. PIL is one of the larger employers of seafarers from the smaller South-East Asian and African maritime training pipelines (Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Tanzania, Kenya). The intra-Asia/Africa routes mean more secondary-port calls than the major east-west lines.
Watch for
PIL's post-restructuring strategy has refocused on its intra-Africa core trade. Some long-haul trans-Pacific deployments have been wound down. Confirm the specific route assignment before joining.
