Sjömanskyrkan (the Swedish Church Abroad) is the Lutheran Church of Sweden's seafarer-welfare ministry, operating in several international ports (Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Felixstowe, Newcastle) and at major Swedish ports. It is a member of the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA) and works closely with the Mission to Seafarers, Stella Maris, and Deutsche Seemannsmission.
Pastoral and practical support for seafarers in port, with particular focus on Swedish and Nordic crews.
A Sjömanskyrkan centre offers wifi, café, quiet space, chapel, and chaplaincy. Many Swedish Church centres double as cultural and community spaces for the Swedish diaspora in the port city, so seafarers visiting often find a wider range of activities than a pure welfare centre.
Nothing required for visits. Swedish or English language conversation is standard; centres in Asian ports also have local-language support.
