The Comoros-flagged general cargo vessel Al Madina was abandoned at Ras Al Khaimah anchorage, UAE, in March 2023 with 11 Indian, Syrian, and Sudanese crew. Owner became uncontactable in February 2023. RAK Port Authority + ITF Dubai coordinated emergency welfare over 11 months. Indian Embassy Abu Dhabi + Syrian consular services managed nationality-specific repatriation. Comoros Maritime — one of the smaller open registries with weakest DMLC verification regime — was slow to issue formal abandonment declaration, delaying insurer engagement. Case is representative of the persistent 2023-24 UAE anchorage abandonment cluster.
