2020-2021 · Suez anchorage, Egypt · status: resolved
The Tanzania-flagged (Zanzibar registry) general cargo vessel Nabil H was abandoned at Suez anchorage during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Eight crew from Egypt, Syria, and India remained on board. Tanzania (Zanzibar) is another small open registry where DMLC verification is weaker — a pattern seen repeatedly across the case index. Egyptian Chamber of Shipping stepped in to provide food and water; ITF Egypt coordinated repatriation through the closure of external border restrictions. The final crew members left in August 2021 after 16+ months. The vessel was subsequently sold for scrap.
all 8 repatriated after 12-16 months; partial wage recovery via vessel sale.
