The Tanzania-flagged general cargo vessel Zeynep was abandoned at Aliaga, Turkey — in waters adjacent to the ship-recycling yards. Owner had entered liquidation. Seven Ukrainian and Russian crew members were held aboard for 10 months awaiting resolution. Turkey Ministry of Transport + ITF Istanbul coordinated repatriation completed February 2022 — just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which would have severely complicated Ukrainian repatriation. The case is cited as an example of pre-conflict-window resolution timing that saved the crew from years-long complications.
