What it is

The WHO International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP, the 'yellow card') plus your employer's required vaccination panel. Common required: yellow fever (countries with risk), hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus, MMR.

Who needs it

Every seafarer travelling to a country with vaccine entry requirements, or onboard a vessel calling at one.

When it is checked

• Airport immigration on entry to yellow-fever-risk states.
• Sign-on by the Master where the route requires it.

Common mistakes

• Yellow fever vaccine within 10 days of travel — it must be at least 10 days before to be effective and accepted.
• Lost yellow card — replacement is usually faster than redoing the vaccinations.
• Forgetting covid documentation where still required.
