An Anchor-Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) is an offshore support ship that positions and recovers the anchors of mobile drilling units during rig moves, tows rigs and barges, and also supplies installations with deck cargo, drilling fluids, water and fuel. It is distinguished from a platform supply vessel by its heavy stern winch and large open after deck for anchor work, and by bollard pulls of roughly 100-300 tonnes for towing. Built to DP-2 standard and crewed by a master, mates, engineers and deck crew, AHTS are hired on day-rates quoted in the offshore-supply-vessel market indices.
