Regulatory detail & full definition
Multi-role offshore support vessel built to anchor and tow mobile offshore drilling units and to supply rigs with consumables. The vessel combines high bollard pull (typically 150–300 t for deepwater work), a stern A-frame and karm fork for chain handling, a dedicated cargo deck, and large below-deck capacity for fuel, water, methanol, and bulk mud. Class notations under IMO MODU Code and the manufacturer's design standard. AHTSs operate principally in offshore O&G fields and are also used for buoy maintenance and salvage support.
