Chemical-tanker equivalent of SIRE: independent ship inspection scheme used by chemical major vetting departments.
Regulatory detail & full definition
Chemical Distribution Institute — ship inspection scheme for chemical and gas tankers, equivalent to OCIMF SIRE for the chemical trade. Member oil and chemical majors use CDI inspection reports for vetting decisions. The CDI Marine inspection covers IBC Code compliance, tank cleaning and segregation procedures, and the operator's CDI questionnaire response. Inspectors are accredited and revalidated every two years. The CDI Terminal scheme parallels Marine for chemical terminals; major chemical traders such as Stolt, Odfjell, and Bahri operate fleets vetted through both regimes.
