Engine-room equivalent of BRM — teamwork, communication, fatigue management, situational awareness for engineers.
Regulatory detail & full definition
Engine-room equivalent of bridge resource management — training in teamwork, communication, fatigue management, situational awareness, and decision-making for engineers. STCW Code Sec. A-III/1 and A-III/2 require the underlying competences for engineer officers and chief engineers. Vetting departments increasingly require ERM evidence alongside the ECDIS, BRM, and tanker DCE certificates. Major operators such as Shell, ExxonMobil, and Chevron list ERM in their TMSA-aligned competence matrices and audit completion at fleet-management interviews.
