IMO 2023 Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships — adopted at MEPC 80 (Resolution MEPC.377(80)), targeting net-zero GHG emissions from international shipping 'by or around' 2050 with indicative checkpoints of 20–30% reduction by 2030 and 70–80% by 2040 relative to 2008. The strategy commits IMO to mid-term measures combining a technical (GHG fuel standard) and economic (GHG pricing mechanism) element, with adoption targeted for 2025 and entry into force in 2027.
