Mandatory survival training for personnel transferring offshore by helicopter; OPITO-accredited.
Regulatory detail & full definition
Helicopter Underwater Escape Training — survival training required for personnel transferring offshore by helicopter. The course teaches escape from a submerged helicopter, life raft boarding, sea survival, and use of emergency breathing apparatus. OPITO Standards 5751 (BOSIET, including HUET) and 5752 (FOET) are the recognised industry curricula. The course is repeated every four years under the OPITO scheme, alongside FOET. Tropical-water variants exist for warm-water regions; helicopter operators verify HUET status before any North Sea, West Africa, Brazil, or Gulf of Mexico transfer.
