Substances causing severe damage when in contact with living tissue or other goods, including most acids and bases.
Regulatory detail & full definition
IMDG Class 8 — corrosive substances that cause severe damage when in contact with living tissue or which, if leaking, can substantially damage or destroy other goods or the means of transport. Examples include sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and many caustic mixtures. Packing groups I, II, and III divide the class by exposure-time-to-irreversible-damage. Stowage emphasises corrosion-resistant secondary containment, drip-tray provision, and segregation from food, oxidisers, and reactive substances.
