Completed before every PTW-issued job. Crew identifies hazards, controls, and PPE; chief officer reviews and signs. Refresher JSA is run if conditions change mid-job (weather, sea state, power loss).

A Job Safety Analysis (JSA), also called a job hazard analysis, is a pre-task process in which a job is broken into its individual steps, the hazards of each step are identified, and the controls to manage them are agreed and documented. Required by the company Safety Management System for any non-routine job, it is normally worked through in a toolbox meeting with all the people who will do the task present. The completed JSA is filed and becomes a record for any subsequent incident investigation. It differs from a permit-to-work in that the JSA analyses hazards while the permit authorises the work.
