OSV combining DP, large deck, crane, ROV, and accommodation for varied subsea/inspection/maintenance work.
Regulatory detail & full definition
Multi-purpose support vessel combining a DP-2 or DP-3 station-keeping system, a large open deck (commonly 1,000–2,000 m²), a heavy-lift offshore crane, an ROV moonpool or hangar, and accommodation for 60–100 technicians. MPSVs perform construction support, IMR (inspection, maintenance, repair), subsea installation, light well intervention, and survey work that does not justify a dedicated diving or drilling vessel. The flexibility comes at the cost of higher day rates and longer mobilisation than a single-purpose vessel; many operators run MPSV/AHTS hybrids to fill the gap.
