Newcastlemax is a dry-bulk carrier of roughly 185,000 to 210,000 deadweight tonnes, sized to the maximum ship that can berth at the Port of Newcastle in Australia — the world's largest coal-export port — with a length limit of about 300 metres and a beam of 50 metres. It is the upper end of the Capesize category and is used chiefly for coal and iron-ore exports. A growing share of Newcastlemax newbuildings are being delivered with LNG dual-fuel or ammonia-ready propulsion as owners position for tightening emissions rules.
