Weather Criterion

Stability criterion in 2008 IS Code Part A 2.3 testing the ship's ability to withstand a steady beam wind plus a sudden gust while rolling. The criterion compares the area under the heeling moment curve from a defined wind force against the area under the righting-moment curve, requiring a positive ratio. The wind force takes into account the lateral wind area, the pressure-area distribution, and the ship's beam. Failure of the criterion in any loading condition prevents the loading manual from being approved for service.
