AMO · Founded 1949 · Dania Beach, Florida, United States · United States
American Maritime Officers is the second-largest US maritime officer union, formed 1949 as District 2 of MEBA and separated in 1979. AMO represents ~5,000 US licensed deck and engine officers on deep-sea US-flag vessels, Great Lakes bulk carriers, and the MSC civilian mariner fleet. The union's contract portfolio includes the largest US-flag operator by tonnage (Maersk Line Limited), OSG's US-flag tanker fleet, and TOTE Maritime's Jones Act Puerto Rico + Alaska trades. AMO's Star Center training campus in Dania Beach, Florida is a licensed USCG training facility offering the full STCW ladder from ratings to Master Unlimited, and is one of the few US centres offering full-motion bridge simulators for the STCW ECDIS + bridge-team management modules.
