limpet mine · 2019-06-13 · Gulf Of Oman (off oman)
The Norwegian-owned, Marshall Islands-flagged product tanker Front Altair suffered three explosions on its starboard side while transiting the Gulf of Oman. The vessel caught fire and 23 crew abandoned ship; all were rescued. The US attributed the attacks to Iran using limpet mines, publishing surveillance video of an IRGC boat allegedly removing an unexploded device from the hull. The near-simultaneous Kokuka Courageous attack targeted a nearby Japanese-owned tanker. The incidents marked the highest tanker-war tension since the 1980s.
