ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre recorded 55 boarding incidents in the Singapore Strait during 2024 — the highest annual count since 2015 and part of a sustained multi-year upward trend. Almost all attacks in the eastbound Traffic Separation Scheme between Pulau Karimun Kecil and Batam. Perpetrators typically boarded at night 01:00-05:00 local from small boats on the Indonesian side, took engine-room spares or personal effects, and departed without confrontation. Under 15% involved weapons; no crew fatalities. Singapore Police Coast Guard + Indonesian Marine Police + Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency operate coordinated Malacca Straits Patrol (MSP) — but the sustained increase in 2023-24 has led ReCAAP to elevate the Singapore Strait as a Category-1 waterway-of-concern.
