Walking distance and transit
Port Khalid is close to central Sharjah — 10-15 minutes from downtown by taxi. Dubai is 30-45 minutes across the border by road; the Al Nahda area straddling both emirates has good hotels and restaurants.

Seafarer tips
Do: dress conservatively — Sharjah takes public decency standards more literally than Dubai. Don't: attempt to bring alcohol into the emirate; it is legally dry (Sharjah is the only UAE emirate with no licensed venues). Watch for: crew-change flights typically route via Dubai International (DXB), 30-45 minutes away — build time buffer for cross-border road transit.
