Antwerp is Europe's second-busiest port after Rotterdam and one of the world's principal chemical + container hubs. Shore leave is straightforward for EU-visa-holders and Schengen-visa-holders; non-Schengen crew need a Schengen transit visa arranged pre-arrival. Mission to Seafarers Antwerp + Stella Maris both operate active centres near the port.
The container terminals on the Left Bank + Right Bank are 20-40 minutes from Antwerp central by taxi. The port area is enormous — walking within it is not practical. Bus lines connect to Antwerp Centraal station.

Do: verify Schengen visa status before requesting shore leave — non-Schengen crew without a valid visa cannot leave the terminal legally. Don't: attempt to enter Antwerp's diamond district without appointment/business reason (heavily controlled). Watch for: the port area is famously vast and easy to get lost in; use the welfare centre transport rather than trying to walk.
