Nagoya, Japan's principal central-region port, handles Japan's automobile exports + significant container, bulk, and chemical traffic. Shore leave is granted under the standard Japanese port-call procedure. Welfare provision is run by Mission to Seafarers and Stella Maris. The port is more functional than touristy — crews use Nagoya for utility shore leave, not sightseeing.
Walking distance and transit
The container terminals at Tobishima and Kinjo are 25-40 minutes from central Nagoya by agent van. The subway connects the central station (Nagoya) to most neighbourhoods. Bullet train (Shinkansen) to Tokyo or Osaka takes 90 minutes — useful for crew with downtime.

Seafarer tips
Do: use the IC card (Manaca) for transit. Don't: skip filling out the disembarkation form. Watch for: Nagoya is more business-oriented than Tokyo or Osaka, so English support outside the major hotels is lower. The agent or welfare centre is your best route for any complex logistics.
